7-Day Chat-to-Build

Build your first tool with AI.

Move from asking for answers to making something you can use, inspect and improve.

Build a Task Prioritizer with a coding agent. You’ll learn to set boundaries, check its work and recover when something breaks.

A small project. A way of working.

Your Task Prioritizer will let you add tasks to Now, Next or Later, mark them complete, delete them and check each group’s count.

It runs in a browser on your computer. No database, sign-in or publishing is required. Tasks disappear when the page refreshes; this is a practice project.

The skill you take away is knowing how to direct an agent and judge the result. You do not need to understand every line of code to begin.

Your seven lessons

Follow the sequence. Take a day—or longer—for each step.

  1. Day 1

    Know where your work lives

Find your project, check the working folder and give your agent standing instructions.

  2. Day 2

    Build the first version

Direct a coding agent, review its plan and test a working Task Prioritizer.

  3. Day 3

    Inspect what the agent made

Explain the three files and follow one action through your app.

  4. Day 4

    Make one deliberate change

Add a clear-completed-tasks button and check what must keep working.

  5. Day 5

    Break, read and fix

Observe a controlled problem, investigate it and verify one repair.

  6. Day 6

    Test and improve

Use an eight-part checklist to justify one improvement—or no change.

  7. Day 7

    Show what you built

Demonstrate your work, explain your decisions and reflect on what you learned.

A few things to know

Do I have to finish in seven days?

No. The days describe the order. Start whenever you like, repeat a lesson and continue at your own pace.

Do I need to join a group or share publicly?

No. Keep your evidence in a private note if you prefer. Community sharing and publishing are optional in this self-paced version.

Can I use Claude Code?

The lesson demonstrations use Codex. If you already use Claude Code, the original lessons explain the substitutions. Use one agent consistently through the challenge.

Is this the same as a live Builder course?

This guide gives you a first local project and a repeatable working process. Live courses add a facilitated build and feedback. Explore the live courses when you’re ready for a next project.
